Workplace Violence Seminar

WORKPLACE VIOLENCE, ARE YOU AT RISK?

YES, if you have exposure to:
The pressures of the economy, layoffs, downsizing, lost investments, the rising costs of health care, and the influence of the media in desensitizing people to violence as a solution to their problems.

WHAT CAN YOU DO TO PROTECT YOUR EMPLOYEES, CUSTOMERS, AND YOURSELF?

HITAC’S Workplace Violence Mitigation and Awareness Seminar

What is Workplace Violence?

According to the National Institute for Occupational Safety, Workplace Violence ranges from offensive or threatening language to homicide.  It is violent acts (including physical assaults, and threats of assaults) directed towards persons at work or on duty.

Are you at risk of being a victim of Workplace Violence?

All you have to do is watch the news or read the newspaper to realize that the workplace can be a dangerous and sometimes violent place. Although certain professions such as law enforcement and late night convenience store workers would seem to be the workers most at risk, a further look at the details tells a different story.  Violent crime occurs in all segments of the workplace; the officer worker, health care provider, teacher, production line worker; supervisor and human resources manager are all at risk for workplace violence.  According to OSHA, the nursing and personal care facility worker for example has a violent injury rate 12 times greater compared to the overall private sector worker injury rate.

What can you do about your risk of Workplace Violence?

HITAC offers one and two day seminars that provide participants with an overview of the prevalence of workplace violence through selected case studies.  Participants will also study the typologies of violence, and the need for worksite analysis, hazard prevention/control, safety training, and record keeping. The participants will also learn the techniques of situational awareness, verbal de-escalation, and simple methods to improve their personal safety at work as well as in their daily life.  In the two-day seminar HITAC, consultants can assist the participants in reviewing their current policies on workplace violence prevention or with getting started on the development of workplace violence prevention a policy.

Will the Workplace Violence Mitigation and Awareness seminar be applicable to my workplace?

Although there are, some strategies and techniques that are universal in Workplace Violence Prevention programs the best programs are customized for your particular workplace.  The professionals at HITAC will work with you in advance of the seminar to make sure that the seminar content is useful and relevant to the participants.  HITAC has most recently developed a customized program for clients in the health care field and can do the same for your particular needs.
